Tummy Tuck

Some patients who are not excessively overweight have an overhang of skin around the abdomen. After weight loss regimes (anti-obesity programmes) there are often redundant skin folds over front and sides of the tummy. Tummy tuck surgery treats this problem by removing excess skin and fatty tissue.

A tummy tuck operation is performed under general anaesthetic. A horizontal incision is made just above the pubic area, between the hip bones on each side and the skin and fatty tissue of the abdomen are separated from the muscle. The lax protruberant fascia and muscle are plicated to flatten the abdominal wall. The excess skin and fatty tissues are then pulled downwards and removed. If necessary, liposuction may be performed to the area during the tummy tuck . Small drains are placed beneath the skin usually for the first 24 hours

After a tummy tuck operation, seroma(fluid collection may be a transient problem which usually resolves in couple of weeks). The sensation just above the pubic area may be reduced.
